Can You Get Health Insurance Now?
You’ve probably heard a lot about the new health care law, called the Affordable Care Act. You may have also heard that, in most cases, you can only sign up for a health insurance plan during the open enrollment period. Open enrollment is over for this year, but you may still be able to get health insurance now -- if you’ve had a major change in your life recently, like losing a job or having a baby. The next open enrollment begins November 1, but there are other times you can sign up: these and other “qualifying life events” allow you to qualify for a Special Enrollment Period.
What Is a Qualifying Life Event for Special Enrollment Period?
You have only 60 days after the qualifying life event to enroll or change your health plan during special enrollment. It may be only 30 days for COBRA if you are losing insurance through your job. You can get health insurance by shopping now through us.
If you missed the open enrollment period and don’t qualify for the Special Enrollment Period, you can work directly with us to buy a short-term insurance plan to cover you through the end of the year.
