You've Got Mail! Pharmacy Home Delivery Services Explained

Using a Home Delivery Pharmacy Service

Like many people, I have to take a few medications to stay healthy. Most of the prescriptions I take are long-term, or maintenance drugs. After I started taking the medicines, I often found myself at the pharmacy for a prescription. Every trip involved a long wait and sometimes a mistake, which meant I had to go back and wait again. Needless to say, the routine grew tiring. I knew there had to be a better way to do this and thought it would be much easier if my prescriptions could be mailed to me to cut out my trip to the pharmacy. Then I learned about using the AllianceRx Walgreens Prime home delivery service through my Blue Cross and Blue Shield of New Mexico pharmacy benefit.

What is a home delivery pharmacy service?

After researching online, I learned that a home delivery pharmacy service delivers your medications directly to your home. Your personal health information stays safe and secure while adding the convenience of bringing the pharmacy to you. Once I decided to give it a try, I wanted to confirm my prescription benefits.

I also learned that I can get refill reminders and notifications when my medications have been shipped. The packaging doesn’t show that medications are inside, so it protects me. I don’t have to be at home to sign for them, so it’s convenient. If I have questions, there is 24/7 access to customer service available, so I can reach pharmacy support services seven days a week.

After I confirmed my prescription drug benefits, I signed up for the AllianceRx Walgreens Prime home delivery. Now, when I order a new medicine and the doctor asks where I’d like it to go, I ask them to send the prescription to AllianceRx Walgreens Prime. A few days later, I get the medication in the mail. Of course, if it is more urgent, I can always ask for a second 14-day prescription for a one-time fill at my local pharmacy.

Two Other Tidbits to Know:

  1. It’s possible to get drugs in temperature-controlled packaging if needed, and…
  2. Coordination of benefits is not part of prescription drug benefit plans for a retail or home delivery pharmacy service. This means that if you have multiple health plans, you can only use one of them for mail order pharmacy benefits.

When I need to refill, I can either go online, or I can call AllianceRx Walgreens Prime at 877-357-7463.

It’s so affordable and simple! If you’re interested in learning more or joining the program, there’s a link to learn more on BAM. Check it out!
